Having seen Lynfir's gallery here, I was inspired to do something that approached her style of leatherwork without trespassing on it. So I dug a pile of offcuts out of my scrap bin that were about the same color, and started sourcing (and cutting my own) laces.
This is a single compartment bag lashed together with thong and hemp cord, with decorations representative of the five Classical elements. Fire is represented by the miniature knife sheathed on the front of the bag under the flap (shown in the other picture of this item,) water is represented by a slice of a mollusk shell, wind by the feather knotted to the side of the bag, and earth by the obsidian arrowhead tied to the outer end of the spiral and the black beads knotted into the hemp here and there on the bag. The fifth element (life, aether, or void, dependant on which culture you ask) is represented by bone beads carved into skulls and a deer antler catch.
The leather was a nice, even color when I started, so I uglied it up with some oil and water stains and scratches.
